All of the packs each have their own ranks. Not to be confused with jobs such as "Hunter", etc.
Alpha: The Alpha is the leader of the pack, the head honcho. They oversee everything, and hold pack meetings. They choose the high ranks, and are succeeded by their Commander. The Alpha must be respected, no exceptions.
Commander: Commanders are like the beta of a wolf pack. The Commander is the second-in-command, the Alpha's right hand man. To become a Commander, a dog must have at least mentored one dog. Commanders can take over if the current Alpha is chased out, dies, or retires. Commanders oversee the territory when the current Alpha is gone somewhere, and they can also hold meetings.
Apprentice: An Apprentice is either a new member of a pack or a dog of at least 6 months of age. Apprentices are given a mentor, usually a trusted dog, to teach them and walk them through pack life. They have to do chores and set a good impression, and prove they know the way of a pack dog. They must learn the Sacred Law. If an Apprentice is a new joiner, they have to be trained for at least 5 good months before becoming a true pack dog. Pups train until they reach a year old, this also goes for pup joiners. At the end of training, an Apprentice goes through one more thing to prove their worth: a test. They're usually given a dangerous objective to complete.
Pup: Pups are the youngest members of a pack. They must be respected by their packmates and fed well. They live around their mothers until they reach 6 months old, when they become an Apprentice.
Rat: A Rat is considered not even part of the pack. The lowest possible rank, even lower than pups. Even pups can order these dogs around. Rats are like slaves. They're bossed around, mistreated, and given difficult things to do. Usually a dog becomes a Rat if they prove to be ultimately untrustworthy. In the Hectos pack, instead of becoming an Apprentice when you join, new joiners that are at least a year old become a Rat until they prove their worth.
